Selection Process for Various Posts in Medical Education & Research
The selection process for the advertised positions involves multiple stages, and the specific procedures vary depending on the type of post. Here’s a detailed breakdown:
- Posts with Direct Personality Test:
- For certain positions, particularly Associate Professor, Professor, and Principal posts, candidates may be called directly for a Personality Test, regardless of the number of eligible candidates. This is applicable in departments such as Higher Education and Medical Education, unless specific procedures are already defined in the Recruitment and Promotion Rules.
- This direct Personality Test is also the method when there are few posts and the ratio of eligible candidates to posts is six or below, except for Lecturer/Assistant Professor positions.
- Posts with Screening Test and Personality Test:
- For posts where there is no specific selection procedure defined in the Recruitment and Promotion Rules, the selection process includes a Screening Test and a Personality Test.
- The Screening Test consists of two written papers conducted on the same day in two sessions.
- Paper-I: This is a Computer Based Test (CBT) or Offline Screening Test of one-hour duration. The syllabus for this test is determined by the Commission.
- Paper-II: This is a Subject Aptitude Test (SAT) and is descriptive in nature.
- Minimum pass marks in the Subject Aptitude Test (SAT) to qualify for the Personality Test are 35% for General category candidates and 30% for reserved categories.
- The answer keys of Paper-I are finalized, and the candidate responses are evaluated based on these keys. For Computer Based Tests, the responses are evaluated electronically, while OMR answer sheets are scanned and evaluated for offline tests.
- Based on the merit of Paper-I, Paper-II is evaluated to prepare a category-wise zone of consideration.
- The ratio for the zone of consideration for scrutiny of documents is 1:5+3 for 1-10 posts and 1:5 for 11 and above posts.
- Personality Test:
- Candidates are called for the Personality Test based on their performance in the written tests. Normally, four candidates for a single post and three for every subsequent post are declared qualified for the Personality Test.
- If there are fewer qualified candidates in a particular category, all of them will be called for the Personality Test.
- If candidates have equal minimum cut off marks in the test, all such candidates will be called for the Personality Test.
- Minimum pass marks for the Personality Test are 40% (12 marks) for general category and 30% (9 marks) for reserved categories.
- The Personality Test is held in the Commission’s office at Shimla.
- Marks obtained in the SAT (120 marks) plus marks in the Personality Test (30 marks) determine the final ranking and selection.
- General Points:
- The eligibility of candidates called for the Personality Test is determined based on original documents produced on the day of the test.
- The Commission is not responsible if a candidate’s candidature is rejected at this stage or during verification by the Appointing Authority.
- Admission to any stage of the selection process is purely provisional.
- Summoning a candidate for the Personality Test does not guarantee selection.
- The final selection is determined by the marks scored in the SAT and the Personality Test.
- The Commission may decide the method of selection in exceptional cases.
- Marks obtained in all the stages of the selection process including cut-off marks will be displayed on the official website of the Commission after 15 days of sending the recommendation to the Appointing Authority.
It is essential for candidates to familiarize themselves with these procedures and ensure they meet all requirements to avoid any issues during the selection process.
